Jr. Legion falls to Augusta

AUGUSTA — Leading 1-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning Tuesday night, the wheels came off for McPherson’s Junior American Legion baseball team.

Augusta struck for five runs, then added eight more in the fifth to cruise to a 13-1 victory.

Corbin Steinert had the only McPherson hit and RBI, which scored Honestee Whittker.

Coming off an exhaustive four games in three days, McPherson coach Heath Gerstner decided to spread out the pitching as seven hurlers toed the rubber. Steinert was the most effective, pitching two shutout innings.

McPherson, now 2-7, goes to Omaha for a weekend tournament.
