Ediger, Nowak take singles titles

McPherson’s Ellea Ediger and Jarrod Nowak came away with singles championships during Tuesday’s McPherson Junior Open Tennis Tournament at the McPherson High Tennis Complex.

Ediger, expected to be one of the top players in Class 4A this fall, cruised past Hesston’s Morgan Holopirek 6-3, 6-4 for the title of the 18 Division. Nowak defeated teammate Andrew Snell 6-3, 6-3 in the Boys 18 finals. They had met for fifth place in the state tournament last month.

Here are the complete final matches, with consolations played in some divisions:

• Boys 14s: Jeb Carlson (Hesston) def. Logan Gamble (Hesston) 7-5, 6-3; Consolation: Brennan Gipson (Mac) def. Matt Fortcamp (Ellinwood) 8-4

• Girls 16s: Riley Ruffin (Wichita) def. Kiley Martin (Hesston) 6-1, 6-1; Consolation: Ashley Achilles (Mac) def. Sophie Smith (Mac) 8-2

• Boys 16: Andrew Klimiuk (Wichita) def. Pierce Klaassen (Ark City) 7-5, 3-6, 10-3; Consolation: Stephen Brubaker (Buhler) def. Isaac Decker (Hesston) 8-6

• Girls 18s: Ellea Ediger (Mac) def. Morgan Holopirek (Hesston) 6-3, 6-4; Consolation: None

• Boys 18s: Jarrod Nowak (Mac) def. Andrew Snell (Mac) 6-3, 6-3; Consolation: Nolan Schrader (Mac) def. Brandon Murrell (Newton) 8-2
