Central Christian College head men's soccer coach Aaron Hoxie is pleased to announce his incoming class of recruits for this upcoming fall season.
This will be his fifth season at the helm of the Tiger program and he believes he has the pieces in place to make a run at the postseason. The class of freshmen and transfer students include:
• Andrew Smith •
6'1'' 170 lbs. Redshirt-Sophomore, Defender. Tulsa, OK. Transfer: University of Central Oklahoma.
This is Smith’s second stint at CCC. In 2013, he started 16 of 18 games for the Tigers and hopes to have a second season that is very similar to his freshman campaign. Hoxie had this to say about Andrew: "We are excited to have Andrew back in the mix this season. He is a tall and athletic player who gave us some fantastic minutes as a freshman. Even though our team has changed a ton over the last two seasons, we are hoping that Andrew's production continues."
• Brendan Gentry •
5'2'' 125 lbs. Freshman, Forward. Pacific, MO. HS: Pacific High School
Gentry comes to CCC with an excellent high school and club record playing out of the St. Louis area. He comes to the team as a forward with an incredible work rate, ton of athleticism and a knack for knocking in goals. "Brendan is a nifty little player. He understands his abilities and limitations, and uses what he has to his advantage. My favorite part about his game is his ability to be in the right place at the right time, which is a difficult skill for forwards," Hoxie said.
• Brian Silva •
6'1'' 210 lbs. Junior, GK. Mesa, AZ. Transfer: Gateway Community College.
A solid goal keeper out of Gateway Community College in Arizona. Silva was a late addition to the Tiger goalie roster, but is welcomed as it gives the team several GKs to choose from. “Brian has good size, great hands, and the experience to help the team in the back,” Hoxie said. “Brian came to us late in the recruiting year and gives us incredible depth in the GK position. The competition for the spots will be extremely fierce, but we are hoping that this will produce movement on the depth chart, so that we are always having our GK in form."
• Colton Maggard •
5'9'' 150 lbs. Redshirt-Sophomore, Defender. Carthage, MO. Transfer: Greenville College
Having spent some time at a couple of different institutions, Maggard settled on CCC as his final destination. He is an athletic player who can slot into a couple of different positions in the back line. "Colton is realistic about his abilities, which is a quality that I like, because he will be able to work on his game so that he can see relevant improvements. He is athletic so his development will be accelerated as time progresses,” Hoxie said.
• Halston Limon •
5'8'' 140 lbs. Freshman, MF. Weatherford, TX. HS: Weatherford High School
Limon brings to the program another player who can suit up in several different positions. He has lined up as an outside midfielder and defender, center mid and Hoxie finds that to be an invaluable tool moving forward in his collegiate career. "Halston is a very intelligent player, as he has featured in several different tactical setups over the last few seasons,” Hoxie said. “His ability to constantly win team awards shows that he is performing well in those setups as well. Given the difficult nature of the college game, Halston will be called on to fix gaps as they come open."
• Itza Lara •
5'10'' 165 lbs. Redshirt-Sophomore, Forward. Oklahoma City, OK. Transfer: Oklahoma City University
Itza is returning to CCC for his second stint, having been on the team as a redshirt in 2014. He spent the last season working on his academics back at home. "Itza is a high-character player,” Hoxie said. “We are hoping that he is able to contribute to the team in a positive way."
• Ja'Mont Edwards Price •
6'5'' 225 lbs. Freshman, GK. Raytown. MO. HS: Raytown High School
Hoxie adds Price as one of his three goal keeper recruits to the upcoming team. He is new to the position and will take some time to develop, but has great athleticism and a huge upside due to his tremendous size. "We loved Ja'Mont from the first moment he came to campus,” Hoxie said. “He has a great work ethic and a huge desire to learn and get better. He is super athletic, is a big physical presence and can really have a great career once we add the technical pieces."
• Jose Leyva •
5'2'' 120 lbs. Freshman, Forward. Everman, TX. HS: Joe C. Bean High School.
Leyva is another quality forward who has a tremendous work rate and athletic side to him. He comes in with an All-District award his senior year from District 16. What excites the coaching staff the most is that Levya can create goals from seemingly impossible situations. "I really enjoy Jose ability to score in 1 v. 1 and 1 v. 2 situations,” Hoxie said. “His work ethic creates many problems for defenders and turns helpless situations in his favor."
• Lorenzo Davalos •
6'0'' 175 lbs. Junior, MF. Mesa, AZ. Transfer: Gateway Community College
One of the goals that Hoxie set out for this class was to add some experience to the team. Davalos helps with this objective as a junior college transfer from Gateway Community College in Arizona. He is a quality possession-minded player who is very clever with both feet. He can also play multiple positions. "Lorenzo is going to fill several different needs that we have this season,” Hoxie said. “His experience as a college player is going to be a tremendous asset for us, and we can slot him into several different positions while not losing quality."
• Maxwell Kelly •
5'6'' 160 lbs. Freshman, MF. Topeka, KS. HS: Topeka High School
Kelly gives CCC some experience out of a quality program. He has been trained well, works very hard and is a quality student athlete. Hoxie likes Kelly and thinks he is the complete package that coaches are looking for. "Max comes in with an excellent academic record, along with a competitive schedule of club and high school ball,” Hoxie said. “He will come in and give competition in the midfield positions and will work his way into some quality minutes."
• Omar Salgado •
5'10'' 160 lbs. Freshman, MF. Bedford, TX. HS: Trinity High School
Hoxie is very excited about landing Salgado out of the Dallas Texans club. He was All- Conference his senior year at Trinity High School and earned several team plaudits as well. "Omar will give us another box to box player who has valuable experience playing for a top club team out of the Dallas area,” Hoxie said. “His motor and technical ability will be a huge asset for the team, and will give immediate competition to an established core.”
• Ricky Tellez •
5'10'' 165 lbs. Redshirt-Sophomore, Red Oak, TX. Transfer: Bradley University.
Tellez is a four time All-Conference player from Red Oak High School, which competed in District 11-4a. He comes to CCC as a transfer from Bradley University, where he played as a defender. Transferring to CCC as a major recruit excites Hoxie and the rest of the staff. "Ricky is a big-time player for us,” Hoxie said. “He will help fill the void of losing two senior center-backs and has Division I playing experience. This experience and his leadership will be huge for us as we try to pick up where we left off in November."
• Rogelio Hernandez •
5'7'' 145 lbs. Redshirt-Junior, Paramount, CA. Transfer: Long Beach Community College
Hernandez will give an attacking presence to the Tiger attack out of the midfield. He is strong on the ball, quick and a very good finisher, which are all key attributes that Hoxie is looking for. "We've brought in several box-to-box and holding MF players and Roger is the only one for the attack,” Hoxie said. “We feel blessed to have a player of his ability decide to come to CCC because he will give us a big boost going forward."
• Stephen Morones •
5'8'' 160 lbs. Junior, Defender. Buena Park, CA. Transfer: Cypress College
Another junior college transfer student that Hoxie has brought into the team to help give an experience boost. Morones will give depth to the outside-back position, which is a position of focus for the coaching staff this upcoming season. "We made it a point to bring in two players who can play in the outside back position because we lacked the necessary depth to play the way we want to play last season,” Hoxie said. “Stephen is going to contribute to the team in a quality way because he has experience and the work ethic needed for this setup."
• Tyler Courtney •
6'5'' 230 lbs. Freshman, GK. Lee's Summit, MO. HS: Archbishop O'Hara High School
Courtney comes to CCC as an MSHSAA Class 2 state champion his senior year. A big and physical goal keeper who has deceptive speed, he will certainly give the goak keeper core at the program a major boost. "I am really excited to have Tyler on board with us,” Hoxie said. “He comes in ready to compete for the position out of the gates. His size is a major attribute for us because of all the teams that like to play the surging balls into the box on our schedule, as he can make plays.”
