Bethany Homes in Lindsborg is hosting the Smoky Valley Senior Resource Fair this Friday, June 24, from 9:00 to 4:00 at the Sundstrom Conference Center in Lindsborg. The fair is free and open to all McPherson County and Smoky Valley area residents.

The purpose of the fair is to bring together resources in one place to help people plan for their future care or the care of a loved one.

“Bethany Home is hosting this with the Lindsborg Senior Center,” said Jennifer Cantrell, Bethany Home’s Marketing Director. “We’ll have information and resources about long-term care; finances; insurance; healthcare; all sorts of other aging services.”

This will be the first year for this senior resource fair which will feature over 24 vendors representing a variety of fields, all with the goal of helping people plan for their future.

“I’m really excited about it,” said Cantrell. “I think it should be a really good event.

“We’ll have presentations throughout the day as well,” she continued. “I’ve got scheduled everybody from lawyers to home health people and financial planners and all sorts of things that will be there to give talks throughout the day.”

Hospice services, banks, insurance agencies, medical professionals, representatives from the Council on Aging and the McPherson County Housing Coalition are just a few more of the vendors participating in Friday’s fair to help educate people who otherwise may not be aware of the options available to them.

“Unfortunately, so many people wait until there’s an urgent situation,” Cantrell said. “And then they don’t know what to do and they get overwhelmed.

“You may have VA benefits,” Cantrell cited as an example. “People are surprised at what benefits are out there for veterans. Even the spouses and children of veterans are sometimes eligible for benefits.

“So we’ll have a representative from the VA there as well.”

The fair is free for participants and vendors and was made possible through a grant from the Smoky Valley Community Foundation and the Healthy Living Fund.
