Everything is right on schedule for the McPherson Senior American Legion baseball team.

Post 24 dispatched with Bonner Springs 11-4 Friday afternoon to improve to 2-0 in the fourth annual Hooper Showcase at Grant Complex, its only game of the day.

It also was the team’s 13th win in 14 games, with a tough final pool game coming up on Saturday against Paola, with first pitch sometime around the 4 p.m. mark at Grant Complex.

Raine Reitsma picked up the win, with final-inning help from Marcus McDaniel. Alex Kalkhorst was the big hitter, including a bases-clearing double.

“He pitched well,” McPherson coach Tony Schmidt said of Reitsma. “He had kind of a high pitch count, but did a good job.”

Kalkhorst has been on fire as he came into the game with 14 hits in 18 at-bats.

“He’s really hitting the ball well,” Schmidt said. “I’m happy we won. We got everyone into the game. We’re in a good spot.”

Schmidt said Paola would be a tough test, especially with three starters not available due to football team camp in Kansas City.

Sunday’s starting times will be determined after Saturday’s games.
