If Treg Fawl is going to capture his sixth straight McPherson City Golf Tournament title, he’s going to have to overcome a first-round deficit.
However, it’s a minimal one considering there’s still 36 holes to play.
McPherson Country Club proved to be rather difficult on Friday as just four players broke 80 on the hot, wind-swept day.
Kenan Warren grabbed the first-day lead with a 75, one shot up on high school senior-to-be Jacob Lackey. Fawl was third with 77, followed by Kurt Kinnamon with a 78.
Kinnamon and Craig Corrigan led the two-man event after the first day with a 71, which included a 33 on their back nine. Chris Stucky and Jason Buschbom shot 72, as did Lackey and Casey Cheek. Fawl and his father, Tony, shot 73, as did Tim Schmidt and Kent Schmidt.
Saturday's play is at Rolling Acres with the final round Sunday at Turkey Creek.
