SALINA — A youthful group of McPherson High soccer players competed in a recent tournament at Salina, going 1-1-1.
The team opened with a 3-3 tie with Salina South, then lost 6-3 to Hays. It salvaged the final game against Kansas City Piper by a resounding 5-0 decision.
“This tournament was the first real opportunity of the summer for the boys to get out and play some 11 v. 11 soccer against someone other than themselves,” MHS coach Chris Adrian said. “Eight of the 19 players that played were ninth-graders and I thought they really represented themselves well against bigger and stronger opposition. I believe this team is really going to be able to play some great soccer once they get more comfortable playing together.”
