SALINA — The first day of the Salina Grand Slam Baseball Tournament proved to be nothing but heartache Friday for the McPherson Junior American Legion.

Post 24 went 0-2, losing both games by a single run.

McPherson dropped an 8-7 decision to the Midwest Bruins, surrendering a 4-1 lead in the process. The Bruins scored five runs in the fourth to turn it around and later led 8-5 before Post 24 scored twice in the sixth.

It was a big game for Jorge Hanschu, who was 3 for 4, while Joel Muhs drove in four runs on just one hit. Wyatt Seidl added two RBIs and Jake Feil had two hits.

Pitchers Trey Hanken and Gunnar Reiss probably deserved a better fate as they allowed only two earned runs between them.

Post 24 then lost a 4-3 verdict to the Millard Gold. Seidl was much of the McPherson offense with two hits. Corbin Steinert took the loss despite throwing a strong game.

Post 24, now 3-17, was to have played this morning at 10:00, but weather figured to throw a wrench into that plan.
