NEWTON — McPherson’s Junior American Legion baseball team finally got back on the winning track Tuesday by taking Game 2 with Newton, 13-2.
The Junior Knights had won the opener, 6-2.
In the winning effort that snapped a seven-game losing streak, Post 24 scored 11 runs in the first three innings to cruise to the easy win, even though it managed only six hits.
Jorge Hanschu was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, while Gunnar Reiss was 2 for 2 with two runs scored. Tyler Scott reached four times via the walk. Zane Myers and Jake Feil scored two runs apiece.
Corbin Steinert was nails in his four innings, as he did not allow an earned run and fanned six.
In Game 1, Post 24 outhit the Junior Knights 10-6, but came up on the short end of the score.
The fifth inning turned the game in Newton’s favor with three runs.
Reiss was 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles, while Hanschu also had three hits, one of them a double. Caleb Potucek chipped in with two hits.
Myers started, with Reiss and Feil following.
Post 24 is now 4-18 on the season. Its next scheduled action is next week in the zone tournament.
