SALINA — McPherson’s Junior American Legion baseball team played one of its best games of the season today as it opened Class A Zone Tournament play with a 14-2 rout of Andover.

That propels McPherson into today’s 5 p.m. second-round game against Hays, the top seed.

It was a monster game for Zane Myers, who was 3 for 5 with four RBIs and two of his hits were doubles. Tyler Scott added two hits and three RBIs, Gunnar Reiss had two hits and three runs scored and Trey Hanken drove in two runs. Honestee Whittker and Corbin Steinert scored two runs for good measure.

Steinert was nails on the mound as he tossed six innings, with neither run he allowed being earned. He struck out eight.
