It was standing-room only last night at the McPherson County Candidates Forum hosted by the McPherson Chamber of Commerce at the American Legion in downtown McPherson.
Incumbent County Clerk Cathy Schmidt and Hollie Melroy fielded two questions from moderator Dan Hervey and two more from audience members after making their prepared statements in their separate bids for McPherson County Clerk.
Incumbent County Sheriff Larry Powell and Jerry Montagne fielded moderator Dan Hervey’s two prepared questions followed by a half a dozen more from audience members in their separate bids for McPherson County Sheriff.
The entire forum lasted about 45 minutes, after which the four candidates mingled with those in attendance estimated to be about 200 to 300 people.
Moderator Dan Hervey concluded by reminding the audience of some important voting information.
“You can advance vote in person at the McPherson County Courthouse in the County Clerk’s office, the lower West entrance, from July 13 to noon on August 1.”
The McPherson County Courthouse hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The primary election is Tuesday, August 2.
“We hope everyone will get out and vote,” said Hervey. “If you have questions about the voting procedure, voting place – any question about voting, you should call the County Clerk at (620) 241-3656.”
The last day to register to vote for the McPherson County elections is today, July 12.
