Come rain or shine, the 68th annual McPherson County Fair in Canton continues into its final days for 2016 with the opening of the commercial building late this afternoon.

Friday’s schedule includes food available for purchase in addition to the annual free barbecue served by volunteers with the Canton Fire Department.

“Friday we have judging of exhibits in the morning, and then in the afternoon after the judging of the foods is done the food sale starts,” said Mary Jane Lauer, long-term McPherson County Fair Board President. “So you can come out to the fair grounds and buy some of the food.

“And then in the evening we have our free barbecue at 6:30,” she continued. “At 6:00 is the pedal tractor pull and at 8:00 is the CPRA rodeo.”

The 2016 McPherson County Fair kicked off July 9 and will run until July 17. Canton has hosted the fair since 1948 when the Canton Frolic and the Fair Association combined to create the McPherson County Fair Association.

Lauer agreed that the next few days will simply be a good time. “We’re looking forward [to it]; everybody bring their families and come out,” she said.

Print editions of the 2016 County Fair Programs are also available at the McPherson radio station. Just come by the station at 411 E. Euclid for a free copy.
