SALINA — McPherson’s U-12 Lady Express won and lost in softball league games played on Thursday, which concluded the season.

“Very proud of how much our girls improved during the season,” McPherson coach Lacey Morgan said. “We were able to compile a 23-5 tournament record, winning four of the six tournaments we played in. That allowed us to use our league games as a chance to give girls experience in positions that we had not been able to during tournament play, with the focus being more on skill improvement rather than winning.”

The team finished with a 27-11 record.

Against the Braves on Thursday in an 11-2 win, Madi Tolle and Brette Doile combined to throw a no-hitter. Tolle did give up two runs set up by walks and Doile came on to pitch three hitless innings, fanning six.

Big offensive games were turned in by Hailey Henson (3 for 3, three runs scored) and Olivia Morgan (three RBIs).

Against the Lady Cardinals, the Express fell behind 6-0 after two innings and could never recover in a 6-4 loss.

McPherson lost despite out-hitting its opponent, 7-5. Morgan drove in two runs and Tolle had two hits. Abby Hipp fanned three in her three innings of pitching.
