The McPherson High soccer program is in tip-top shape.
Both the boys and girls, who have been among the state’s best teams during the Chris Adrian era, went through summer camp this week and Adrian is ecstatic with how they performed.
“This was the best turnout I’ve had for our team camp since I began coaching 7 years ago,” Adrian said. “We had a total of 55 players participate.”
The girls’ program, which has been gaining strength the last three years, was in top form. The Bullpups were third in the state this past spring after taking second in 2015.
“On the girls’ side, this team continues to get stronger every single year,” Adrian said. “Another great freshmen class is joining the program, which is going to make us even better next year. It’s amazing to see the growth of the girls program when you think there was a time only a few years ago when it was a struggle to get more than 10 girls to participate in our team camp.”
The boys, expected to be a top contender in Class 4-1A this fall, drew kudos as well.
“I was really encouraged by what I saw on the boys’ side, too,” he said. “We are going to have some great athleticism on the team, but we also have the ability to play great soccer and combinations. Everyone worked really hard all week long despite the heat and both teams showed a lot of improvement over the course of one week.”
