McPherson College received a significant national honor last year when the “Chronicle of Higher Education” named it a “2015 Great College to Work For.”
At the time, it was a high honor that seemed difficult to top. But in 2016, MC has, in fact, topped it.
The Chronicle announced on July 18 that McPherson College was named for the second year in a row as a “Great College to Work For” based on confidential surveys completed by MC employees. There were 281 institutions nationwide who applied to receive the recognition.
Moreover, MC was named to the prestigious “Honor Roll” list for qualifying for the honor in an outstanding 11 categories! McPherson College was one of just five colleges on the list to earn recognition in 11 categories or more. MC was also the only college in Kansas to earn the recognition.
All this was achieved with MC boasting a high response rate of 24 percentage points above the national average for the survey.
The results of the survey were announced in the Chronicle’s ninth annual report on The Academic Workplace. The publication recognized McPherson College in the following categories:
Compensation & Benefits
Confidence in Senior Leadership
Facilities, Workspace and Security
Job SatisfactionProfessional/Career Development Programs
Respect and Appreciation
Supervisor/Department Chair Relationship
Tenure Clarity & Process
President Michael Schneider said he is proud to work for McPherson College and thrilled that the college has received the “Great College to Work For” honor two years running. Because he’s chosen to work at MC, he said it’s a highly meaningful award for him.
While students are central to the mission of McPherson College, Schneider said, employees are at the institution’s heart.
“I’m not sure who has more fun on campus: the students or employees,” Schneider said. “We enjoy working together on the big challenges in higher education. Our people prove that small does not mean insignificant.”
Among some of the benefits afforded to MC employees that make it such a great place to work include: generous vacation, holiday, and sick time benefits; the “Horizon Faculty Fellows” for professors to incorporate entrepreneurial concepts into the classroom; a sabbatical program for faculty to take “time away” from teaching courses on campus to pursue professional development; opportunities for open feedback and critique to college leadership; possibilities for flexible work scheduling; a robust employee assistance program and other employee benefits; and close cooperation between college administration and college departments in planning and direction.
