Lackey advances to match play

EMPORIA — McPherson’s Jacob Lackey is competing today in the first round of match play at the Junior Section Championships at Emporia Golf Club.

Lackey qualified for match play after shooting rounds of 72-76-148. He is playing Christian Ghilardi in the first round, who is the No. 7 seed while Lackey is No. 10.

Lackey is coming off a tremendous performance in the Kansas Men’s Amateur at Garden City. He made the first round of match play before losing to Wichita’s Sam Stevens in the first round. Lackey shot 1-under-par in defeat.

Stevens is a member of the Oklahoma State golf team.
