Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) announced plans to close I-135 and detour traffic between US-56 (exit 60) and Pawnee Road (exit 65). A detour route will run parallel along 17th Avenue, approximately one-half mile to the east.
The I-135 southbound lanes will be closed on Tuesday, August 2, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Northbound lanes will be closed on Wednesday, August 3, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Drivers are advised to travel with caution and adhere to detour signs.
The highway closing is the result of a new interchange being constructed on I-135 at Mohawk Road in McPherson County. Construction comprised of earthwork on either side of the Interstate began in March 2016. The temporary detour is needed to safely place steel bridge beams over I-135.
