McPherson High’s Jake Nikkel and Hesston’s Garrett Roth will be playing for the West team on Saturday in the annual Kansas Shrine Bowl football game at Emporia.
Nikkel, an offensive lineman, will be suiting up for the final time as he’s not going to play football in college, focusing on agriculture at Kansas State. Roth, a lineman and kicker, has signed to play tennis at Hesston College after winning the Class 3-2-1A state championship with teammate Grant Dahlsten.
Nikkel represents the ninth MHS player in a row to be selected to play in the game. It started with Tanner Hawkinson and continued with Zach Peterson, Joel Piper, Christian Ulsaker, Jordan Hart, Collin French, Garrett Larson and Ty Hart.
The 7 p.m. game will be televised locally for Cox Cable subscribers on Channel 22.
