McPherson saw a record turnout this past weekend for its annual Youth Fishing Derby.
“We had 170 participants at the fishing derby,” said Wayne Burns, McPherson’s Public Lands and Facilities Director. “We prepared over 400 hot dogs and gave away all 400 hot dogs. Every participant walked away with an award.”
This was the tenth year for the annual event, which took place Saturday, August 13, at McPherson’s Lakeside Park with its biggest turnout yet.
“It goes down in history that it’s the largest fishing derby that we’ve had,” Burns said. “Plus we had the largest stocking of the Public Lands and Facilities department. So, great weekend!”
The fishing derby is put on every year by the McPherson Recreation Commission and the McPherson Junior Bassmasters. Any youth age 15 and younger may participate.
