McPherson County Scam Attempt
On August 15th the McPherson County Sheriff’s Office received information from a county resident of an attempted scam involving a letter purportedly sent by the TD Canada Trust Bank. This letter utilizes a similar logo as the real TD Canada Trust Bank does.
The letter states a deceased bank customer with the same last name as the person who received the letter may be eligible for a $9.2 million inheritance that has gone unclaimed. The letter is signed by a Mr. Peter Andrew Timo who identifies himself as an account manager for the TD Canada Trust Bank. Timo gives an email address for the person to send their response to in order to get further instructions as to how to claim the money. He also instructs them not to tell anybody about this money and how it requires confidentiality on their part in order for them to claim the funds from the bank. When that happens Timo says he will share the money with the person the letter was sent to.
There is no return address on the envelope other than the name “CHASE” and it is postmarked from Canada.
This scam has been attempted across the country and has now made its way to McPherson County. Obviously, if you receive one of these letters don’t make any attempt to email or contact Timo. If you wish you may contact your local law enforcement.
