LINDSBORG — In one preseason football poll, the Smoky Valley Vikings were picked No. 7 in Class 4A Division II.
Pretty heady stuff for a team that was 2-7 under a first-year coach in 2015.
Tim Lambert begins his second year as Viking leader. He has a large group of returning players who endured some growing pains as the team was again hit hard with injuries and some youngsters had to step in.
“Things are going well right now,” said Lambert, a former Bethany College Swede football standout. “We are further along than this time last year.”
Lambert didn’t comment on any individuals, but more should be known after Friday’s scrimmage under the lights at Anderson Field.
The Vikings have a tremendous challenge in their season opener on Sept. 2 when they play at Halstead.
