OLATHE — Bethany College’s women’s soccer team opened its season with a 3-0 loss Tuesday to MidAmerica Nazarene, which had received votes in the national preseason poll.

The Pioneers controlled the action throughout, firing off a 17-4 advantage in shots.

“I'm proud of my team for battling until the end," Bethany coach John Markey said. "MNU is one of the top teams in one of the top conferences in the country and had a couple more weeks of preseason than us."

It was a 1-0 game at the half before the Pioneers improved their lead with a couple of goals after the break.

The Swedes continue their tough preseason schedule on Saturday when they play at nationally ranked Baker in Baldwin City. The Wildcats are ranked No. 13.
