McPherson College’s volleyball team makes its debut today under new coach Jessica Cleveland.
The Bulldogs are in Marshall, Mo., for the Missouri Valley Classic, with two matches today and two more Saturday.
The Bulldogs are coming off a scrimmage on Wednesday at Hesston against Cleveland’s former team Hesston College.
“This scrimmage was a good start for us to prepare for our tournament at Missouri Valley College,” Cleveland said. “We were able to play everyone both on JV and varsity to get them experience and another chance for me to evaluate in a game situation other than playing ourselves.”
A couple of players caught Cleveland’s eye.
“Jocelyn Cochran was a natural leader for us and was very consistent in her game,” Cleveland said. “Jessica Sanders was as our main point earner. We have a starting point where I know how much more work we need to do to hit their full potential.”
It should be quite an eye-opener for Cleveland’s team as its first match against Oklahoma City University, a national power. It also plays Central Methodist today before taking on Avila and Missouri Valley on Saturday.
The Bulldogs then make their home debut Aug. 31 hosting Bethel College in their KCAC opener.
