MARSHALL, Mo. — McPherson College’s volleyball team might surprise some opponents  in the KCAC if its performance in the Missouri Valley Invitational is any indication.

For the second straight day the Bulldogs came away with a split as they went up against top-notch competition. They opened Saturday by defeating Avila before losing to tourney host Missouri Valley for a 2-2 weekend.

Mac defeated Avila (25-20, 19-25, 25-16, 25-17) to start the day right.

Leaders for Mac were Jessica Sanders (10 kills, 6 blocks, 4 aces), Leia Seiler (8 kills), Lexi Kite (8 kills), Kaitlyn Heinis (19 assists), Morgan Little (14 assists), Emily Warner (23 digs), Jocelyn Cochran (6 kills, 10 digs) and Jamie Siess (10 digs).

Powerhouse Missouri Valley jumped on Mac for a 25-9 first-set win and then completed the 3-0 sweep with 25-20 and 25-19 victories.

The Bulldogs had a good chance in the second set as they let a 22-15 lead get away, which turned the entire match.

Leaders were Sanders (7 kills), Kite (10 assists, 4 kills), Little (11 assists), Heinis (10 assists) and Warner (11 digs).

A highlight of the weekend was Kite being named to the All-Tournament Team.
