It went down to the wire, but McPherson High School met the required 500 drivers to earn a $10,000 donation for the athletic fund during the Bullpup Fall Preview Friday at McPherson Stadium.

The donation is made by Midway Motors and Buick. Patrons test drove cars and the goal was reached just before the 9 p.m. deadline.

Nearly 2,000 fans turned out for a variety of McPherson High and McPherson Middle School activities.

The evening is a kickoff to the school year.

“We really try and showcase as many student participants as we can during the Fall Bullpup Preview since it is a great kickoff event for both MHS and MMS,” McPherson High Activities Director Shane Backhus said. “This year we even had students as young as fifth grade there singing the National Anthem as part of a combined 5th-12th grade choir.  All of the activities, combined with the Buick Drive for Your Students event, is just a great way for the community to come out and show their support for the Bullpup programs. A big thanks goes out to Midway Motors, the MHS Booster Club and all those that came out. In addition to the id="mce_marker"0,000 raised by the test drive event, Midway Motors also raised over $350 by sponsoring a dunk tank (thank you to all the coaches and Mr. (Brad) Plackemeier who volunteered for that) and the Booster Club raised additional funds with their cookout.”
