McPherson Middle School’s volleyball teams were home for the first time on Thursday against Andover.

The eighth-graders lost both matches, while the seventh-graders won both.

Here is a summary:

• 8th Grade A — It was all Andover, as it won in straight sets (25-11, 25-22).

“After a rough first set and a slow start to the second set, we finally settled down and we were able to string multiple points together,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “I was proud of the girls for not giving up and for holding off multiple match points.”

• 8th Grade B — It was again all Andover as it swept to 25-5, 25-16 victories.

“Tonight we struggled with confidence and being aggressive,” MMS coach Aimee McDaniel said. “We will continue to focus on communication, serving and passing so that we increase our confidence.”

• 7th Grade A — McPherson won its second straight match in a thrilling three-setter (25-23, 28-30, 15-9).

“I was so proud of the way the girls fought back after a tough loss in the second set,” MMS coach Shelly Bohme said. “They really stepped up their defense and had some great digs. Our serving was not as consistent tonight, so that's an area we need to continue to work on, as well as our communication on the court.”

• 7th Grade B — In another three setter, it was again the Bullpups who were victorious (25-23, 17-25, 15-5).

“Girls did great, they were communicating well and playing as a team the whole time,” MMS coach Abby Bradstreet said.
