McPherson – Plans are underway for the McPherson Festival of Cultures September 23-25 in Lakeside Park. The event, which replaces the annual McPherson Scottish Festival, will continue to promote Highland activities. Events representing other cultures will also be featured to celebrate overall diversity.

The traditional fire ceremony and clan dinner will kickoff the festival on Friday night followed by a beer garden and concert featuring McPherson native Chris Arpad on steel drums. Saturday begins with a Fortune Cookie 5K Fun Run/Walk at 8 a.m. followed by day-long activities including Highland athletic games, Indian dancing, craft beer tasting, children’s games, clogging, paddle boats, international foods and more. Similar activities continue on Sunday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The McPherson bagpipe band will perform on Saturday and Sunday.

Festival organizers have reduced the cost of attendance to encourage local attendance. One-day adult passes are $8 per person. Children 12 and under are free. There is an additional $5 charge for the Chris Arpad concert. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or online. For a complete listing of festival activities
