HASTINGS, Neb. — After a scoreless first quarter Saturday between Bethany College and Hastings College, it took all of 5 minutes in the second quarter for the Broncos to decide the outcome.

Hastings struck quickly three times in the second period to lead 21-0 and went on for a 42-3 victory over Bethany in the KCAC-GPAC Football Challenge.

It was a brutal day for the Bethany offense, which managed only 195 total yards, and the Swedes were forced into 10 punts.

The only Bethany scoring came from James Augustin’s field goal, which came with 5 minutes left the game.

Starting Swedes quarterback Kyler Arter with down with an apparent leg injury, which left the game in the hands of Darius Handcox. All-KCAC preseason pick Nate Ocran was a bright spot with 79 yards on 19 carries.

Hastings rushed for 121 yards and added 237 through the air.

Bethany goes to Oklahoma on Saturday to take on Langston University.
