McPherson High’s boys soccer team opens action today in the Maize South Invitational by playing the 4:00 game against Thomas More Prep.
The Bullpups are 1-1 on the season, having lost 3-2 in double-overtime to Newton before bouncing back to blank defending Class 4-1A champion Rose Hill, 5-0. Andric McGill scored both goals off Patrick Munsey assists against Newton, while Munsey had a hat trick in the victory over Rose Hill.
If the Bullpups win today, they would play the winner of Maize South and Wichita Independent at 6 p.m. Thursday. In the other half of the draw, today’s games include Salina South against Valley Center, while Andover takes on Life Prep.
Should the Bullpups be upset, they would play at 4 p.m. Thursday.
“The Maize South tournament has got some new teams this year and I think it will be extremely competitive which I’m excited about,” MHS coach Chris Adrian said. “Salina South, Valley Center, Andover and Maize South are all going to be quality teams. TMP is our first-round game and they are always a bit of a wild-card because they occasionally bring in a lot of new players that weren’t on the team a year before. This tournament is going to be a great test for the boys.”
