BUHLER — Jakob Feil’s touchdown and subsequent 2-point conversion in overtime lifted McPherson High’s ninth-grade football team to an exciting 28-26 victory over arch-rival Buhler on Monday.
According to MHS assistant coach Heath Gerstner, Feil had about 150 yards rushing in the second half alone and scored two touchdowns in the game.
Cody Stufflebean had opened the MHS scoring with TD pass from Kaleb Hoppes and the two hooked up again with about a minute to go to tie the game at 20-all.
“Super excited about the win over Buhler for the freshman,” Gerstner said. “We were behind virtually the entire game and our kids just would not quit. Most of our kids were playing both ways on a very hot day and really battled. We have a lot of mistakes to correct this week, but this group is fun to coach. Lots of credit needs to go to our offensive line who opened up big holes the entire second half.”
MHS plays Monday at Maize South.
