Karen Martinez is the new head tennis coach at Central Christian College.
Martinez has an exemplary background. She was one of the top junior players in her native Colombia and then came to the United States in 2008 to play for the University of South Carolina-Upstate.
She has been teaching and coaching tennis the past several years. She has worked as a head tennis pro at Medlock Bridge Tennis Center in Alpharetta, Ga., as an assistant women’s tennis coach at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Ga., junior tennis director at The Westside Club in Spartanburg, S.C., junior tennis director at Tennis Stage in Bogota, Colombia, and most recently was the assistant head tennis coach for men’s and women’s tennis at Emporia State University.
“I'm so excited for this opportunity to coach and become part of the family at Central Christian College,” Martinez said in a press release. “I look forward to building up the tennis program and creating a great experience for our student-athletes.”
“Karen comes to us with years of experience collegiately as well as private coaching experience locally and internationally,” CCC Athletic Director Twiggs Reed said. “She has been a part of winning traditions as a player and a coach. We look forward to Karen building a successful and competitive tennis program here at Central.”
Martinez’s husband, Thiago Lins, is a teaching pro in Salina and he is going to assist her with the coaching duties.
