LINDSBORG — Defending Class 3-2-1A state tennis champion Hesston outlasted a strong field on Thursday to win the Smoky Valley Classic.
The Swathers scored 46 points to cruise by Central Plains, which was the runner-up with 33. Host Smoky Valley scored 29, followed by Ellsworth (26), Abilene (23), Hillsboro (22), Chapman (18) and Trinity Catholic (1).
Hesston’s Morgan Holopirek led the Swathers to their title by winning the singles division with a 4-0 record. Halle Krehbiel was fourth in singles for the Swathers, who also received a second from the doubles team of Olivia Brubacher and Kylie Martin.
Smoky Valley’s top finish was a third from the doubles team of Emily Roets and Katie Bellah.
