The wait was worth it Friday for McPherson College’s men’s soccer team.
After being postponed on Thursday in the first day of the Red Card Cancer Classic at McPherson Stadium, the Bulldogs finally took to the pitch Friday and came away with a 3-1 victory over Northwestern Iowa.
The Bulldogs led 2-0 at the half and after the advantage was sliced in half after intermission, Mac picked up an insurance goal to improve to 3-0 on the season.
David Mwinga was the star of the day with two goals, with Jesus Pescador scoring the other. Chris Killy had a pair of assists.
“This was a good side we beat today in tough elements,” Mac coach Doug Quint said. “I felt we were in control of the game until they scored the early goal at the beginning of the second. That changed the complexity of the game and we need to learn to put together a complete match. Very proud we were able to stay organized defensively and then find a late goal to put the game out of reach.”
Saturday’s match with Bellevue has been moved to 2 p.m. Sunday. Bellevue defeated John Brown University 3-2 in double-overtime in the first match.
