SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — Encouraged, not discouraged.

That’s how McPherson College’s football team should feel after completing the non-conference portion of its schedule Saturday afternoon with a 27-13 road loss to high-powered Dordt College.

"We're obviously disappointed with the outcome of the game," McPherson College coach Paul Mierkiewicz said. "We are pleased, though, with the effort we received on both sides of the ball. We just need to get back home and find ways to get better. We're looking forward to playing in front of the home crowd for the first time this season. It'll be a big week coming up for the program as we'll be celebrating the legacy of Blake Reed and his impact on our program."

The Bulldogs bent a lot of the game, but kept the breaks at a minimum. Dordt piled up 623 yards of offense (it was just under 600 yards last week), but led only 14-10 at the half and 20-13 after three quarters.

Both teams ran a ton of plays, Dordt rattling off 84 and the Bulldogs 76. Mac did accumulate 332 yards, a bit off its total of last week.

Bulldog quarterback Ed Crouch had another good game, throwing for 220 yards and rushing for 51, including a 32-yard TD run that gave Mac an early 7-0 lead. Tyrone Campbell added 56 on 13 carries. Caleb Contreras booted a pair of short field goals.

Brandt Wolters became a bigger part of the offense with eight catches for 62 yards, while Eman McNeil snared six for 74 as he has been over 70 yards in both games.

The 0-2 Bulldogs open KCAC play on Saturday by hosting Southwestern College.
