STERLING — Central Christian College’s Joe Capuchino continues to stamp himself as one of the top cross country runners in Kansas.
Capuchino was third on Saturday at the Sterling College Warrior Fest in a national-qualifying time of 26:58. Also running for the short-handed Tigers was Esteban Lagunas, who was 25th in 29:52.
The Tiger women also were short-handed due to injuries. Finishers were Cierra Hess (30th in 23:35) and Alyssia Johnson (33rd in 24:54).
“We ran well today,” CCC coach Mike Anderson said. “We were depleted a bit because of injuries, but the kids that were able to go showed a lot of heart and guts. This was also our first time running 8K and 5K, so I felt good about our performances.”
Next Tiger action is Sept. 23 at Emporia.
