McPherson College’s men’s soccer team didn’t win on Sunday, but it didn’t lose, either.
The Bulldogs couldn’t maintain a 2-1 halftime lead and wound up drawing 2-2 with the nation’s 17th-ranked team, Bellevue (Neb.) University, on the final day of the McPherson College Red Card Cancer Classic.
What made this one tough to swallow was that Mac led 2-0 early on goals by David Mwinga and Trent Keller, with assists by Tyler Minney and Nick Torres. The Bruins scored late in the first half to pull within 2-1.
Bellevue scored with 11 minutes left in the game to tie it, then neither team could score in the overtimes.
The tie left Mac at 3-0-1 and Bulldog coach Doug Quint talking like it should have been a game that his team should have put away.
“We certainly played well enough to win that game," Quint said. "That was a result that we let get away.”
The Bulldogs will be road warriors for a while as they begin the first of four away games on Wednesday at Manhattan Christian College.
