Big plays spark MHS JVs

MAIZE — After a scoreless first quarter, McPherson High’s JV football team dominated Maize South over the final three periods on Monday for a 38-6 victory.

MHS led 14-0 at the half. Kyler Hoppes hooked up with Michael Mendez for a 7-yard scoring pass, with Hoppes running in for the 2-pointer. Mendez then scored defensively when he returned a fumble for a score.

MHS then dominated the second half. Honestee Whittker raced away for a pair of 80-yard TDs, while Jace Kinnamon bulled 21 yards for another score. Mendez, Hoppes and Whittker all scored 2-pointers.

MHS is now 1-1 and hosts Winfield on Monday.
