He was the littlest Bulldog with the biggest heart.
Blake Reed served as McPherson College’s student assistant football coach after having been a manager for the McPherson High football team. He suffered from Muscular Dystrophy and spent his life in a wheelchair, but he never let it stop him as he was on the Bulldog practice field every single day, rain or shine.
Blake finally lost his battle on Aug. 3, 2010. Since then, McPherson College has honored his memory with the Blake Reed Mac2Mac Memorial Game, which is scheduled for Saturday at McPherson Stadium.
It also will be the Bulldogs’ home opener as they take on Southwestern.
Game time is 7 p.m. Donations will be accepted at the gate to benefit the Blake Reed Mac2Mac Football Scholarship, which benefits a Bulldog who best exemplifies Blake’s spirit.
This year’s honoree is senior Kavoderic McIntyre, who will be honored at halftime.
More than $50,000 has been donated over the last six years. Past winners of the award have been James Temaat, John Davidson, Michael Ramos, Cole Long and Evan Clary.
