McPherson, KS– The McPherson County Department of Planning, Zoning & Environment uses September of every year to bring awareness to private water wells and wastewater systems’ health and maintenance.
This year’s theme is “Love & Happiness with Your Systems!” Although most folks don’t think about or know the ins-and-outs of their water and wastewater systems, they actually play a crucial role in the well-being of your family and the effective operation of your home.
“The failure of these systems can affect the health of their families, neighbors, and the environment when there are breaks, leaks, failures, or run back. There are some unsightly things in our water and wastewater that few folks would want to be exposed to – and most times are only faced with this issue once there is a problem,” says Carissa McCuen, Administrative Assistant, Department of Planning, Zoning & Environment.
One of the efforts of Water & Waste Awareness Month is to start getting folks to think about their water and waste systems before there are problems with them.
“We want homeowners to show their systems some love and put them on their routine review of their other items, such as energy use, the condition of the roof, exterior paint, etc.” continued McCuen.
Please join us in providing new information, or for others, to re-visit information on the importance of good habits when it comes to using water efficiently and operating your wastewater system (like a lagoon).
Each week in September, the McPherson County website,www.mcphersoncountyks.us,will be featuring one important aspect of water and waste awareness.
WEEK #1:Monday SEP 5-Sunday SEP 11 – A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP
You don’t have to fall in love with it, but it’s important to have a healthy relationship with your septic tank. Specifically, knowing how your daily water and waste habits can affect the happiness of your septic system.
WEEK #2:Monday SEP 12-Sunday SEP 18 – GO ON A DATE WITH YOUR WELL
Just as important as scheduling a regular date night – it is important to regularly schedule taking a water sample from your well and having it tested for a variety of contaminations. Your spouse, family, and WELL will thank you.
WEEK #3:Monday SEP 19-Sunday SEP 25 – YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE!
We all know it takes hard work and attention to make love work. Your lagoon is no different. From soil type, to lots of sun, to a good breeze, it takes a lot to keep your lagoon treating you right.
WEEK #4:Monday SEP 26-Sunday OCT 2 – LOVE THE ONE YOU’RE WITH
More than just a hole in the ground – your water well is a source of water and life. So show your well head some love by making sure isn’t damaged or in need of repairs.
