LINDSBORG — Another week, another new starting quarterback for the Bethany College football team.

Isaiah Salazer is expected to be at the reigns of the Swedes’ offense on Saturday when they play at Anderson Field for the first time this season in the KCAC opener against Bethel College in the traditional battle of the “BCs.”

Salazar is starting since last week’s quarterback, Darius Handcox, will be out for two games. According to the Bethany College website, he is serving a two-game penalty after being ejected in last week’s game, a 30-7 loss to Langston University.

Kyler Arter had started the season at quarterback for the Swedes, but was lost for the year with a knee injury in the first half of the Hastings game.

The Swedes are looking for a jump-start to their offense as they have scored just one touchdown in two games, yet they have had several opportunities in the red zone. They have been plagued by turnovers deep in their opponents’ territory and will be looking to finish drives this week.

Bethel is somewhat of a mystery team. It opened its season with a 26-0 loss to Midland University and didn’t play last week. It has a new quarterback in Coffeyville Juco transfer Matt Jones and a big-time running back in Jaylen Sykes, who is considered among the best in the KCAC.

This will be the Swedes’ last night game of the year. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
