HUTCHINSON — It was another busy day of volleyball for McPherson Middle School’s teams on Thursday as they went up against Hutchinson.

A summary:

• 8th Grade A — McPherson improved to 5-2 with a 25-19, 30-8 victory.

“The girls played well tonight against a good Hutch team,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “We had a few mistakes with serving and hitting, but overall, we continue to improve and get a little bit better each day. Hailey Henson had a solid night serving and continues to do a great job setting the ball and running our offense. Lexi Kynaston stepped up tonight with great passing and net play.”

• 8th Grade B — The B-team took Hutch to three sets before losing, 24-26, 26-24, 9-15. The Bullpups are 1-6 for the season.

“The girls fought hard the entire time,” MMS coach Aimee McDaniel said. “They served well and communicated with each other. They gave 100 percent effort. We look forward to playing in McPherson on Saturday for our B-team tournament.”

• 7th Grade A — After reeling off six wins in a row to open the season, the Bullpups lost a hard-fought three-setter, 25-23, 25-27, 13-15.

“We lost a hard-fought match to a tough Hutch team,” MMS coach Shelly Bohme said.  “We just made too many mistakes at the wrong time, which is something we can't do against a team that good. We adjusted well to their tips, but struggled with getting into a rhythm offensively. Our serving was outstanding tonight. Overall, we made 60/62 serves. We face this team again on Monday for what should be another great match.”

• 7th Grade B — The B-team also lost its first match of the season to fall to 6-1. Hutchinson won in straight sets, 25-23, 25-21.
