McPherson – This year’s McPherson Festival of Cultures will offer a variety of activities including a Scotch Tasting and International Buffet at the McPherson Museum on Saturday, September 24. Both events are open to the public and require advanced reservations. Tickets should be purchased online atwww.macfestival.orgno later than Tuesday, September 20.
The McPherson Festival of Cultures, which runs September 23-25 and replaces the annual McPherson Scottish Festival, will continue to feature Highland athletic games, dancers and musicians. The City of McPherson Pipe Band will also make several appearances. The traditional fire ceremony and clan dinner will start the festival on Friday night followed by a beer garden and concert featuring McPherson native Chris Arpad on steel drums. A Wish Lantern Ceremony will occur at the Lakeside Park Low Water Bridge at 9 p.m.
New festival activities are designed to introduce locals and visitors to other cultures. Saturday activities include a Fortune Cookie 5K Fun Run/Walk at 8 a.m. followed by booths featuring Indian dancing, craft beer tasting, fencing, children’s games, clogging, paddle boats, international foods and more. Festival organizers have reduced the cost of attendance compared to past years. One-day adult passes are $8 per person. Children 12 and under are free. There is an additional $5 charge for the Chris Arpad concert. Tickets can be purchased at the gate or online.
