McPherson’s eighth-grade volleyball B-team got a chance to play on the big stage Saturday when it hosted the Pioneer League Tournament at the Roundhouse.
MMS was 2-1 in pool play with wins over Hutchinson (20-25, 25-14, 15-6) and Salina Lakewood (29-31, 25-19, 15-10). The loss came to Prairie Hills (11-25, 19-25).
Three teams tied for first, but MMS was deemed third in its pool due to point differential.
In the consolation round, the Bullpups lost to Newton (19-25, 19-25) for sixth place. They are now 3-8 on the year.
“The girls played a lot of volleyball in a short amount of time today,” MMS coach Aimee McDaniel said. “With back-to-back games for the entire tournament, the girls came out enthusiastic and played well. We were able to get wins in the first two matches. By the fourth match we ran out of steam. Today the girls served aggressive and played great volleyball. They should all be very proud of their hard work.”
