It was a terrific night for McPherson’s eighth-grade volleyball team here Monday.
The Bullpup A-team improved to 7-2 by sweeping Hutchinson (25-11, 26-24) and Salina Lakewood (23-25, 25-20, 15-12) in Pioneer League action.
“We came out ready in the first set against Hutch and then lost a little focus the second set,” MMS coach Jacque Gehrt said. “Communication errors caused a few problems, but consistent serves by Hailey Henson helped us out. Against a good Lakewood team we got down early in the first set, then fought back to make it a close one at 23-25, but we had all the momentum for the rest of the night. I was excited for the girls and their ability to close out the tight match.”
The B-team continued its chase for the .500 mark with a pair of wins, defeating Hutchinson in three sets (25-16, 24-26, 15-9) and Lakewood (25-21, 26-24). MMS is now 5-8 after a slow start.
“It was a great night for our team,” MMS coach Aimee McDaniel said. “They were all determined and never gave up. Each team member has improved so much. It is fun to watch them play. Great job.”
