HUTCHINSON — McPherson’s seventh-grade volleyball team was on the road for a Pioneer League triangular on Monday.
The A-team is now 7-2 after splitting its matches. It defeated Salina Lakewood (25-13, 25-9), but lost in three sets to Hutchinson (25-19, 18-25, 8-15).
“After a slow start against Lakewood, we came out and played solid,” MMS coach Shelly Bohme said. “We did a great job offensively and defensively in the first set against Hutch. By covering their tips, we were able to get passes up to our setters and attack the ball, and forced them to make mistakes. We fought back in the second set, but came up short and they had the momentum going into set 3. We were not able to string points together and had too many errors to stay in it. We have a week off before a home triangular, so we have some time to work on our mental toughness, as well as continuing to improve our passing.”
The B-team had the same result, routing Lakewood (25-11, 25-15), but losing to Hutch (19-25, 13-25).
The Bullpups are 10-4.
“We started off our games extremely well,” MMS coach Abby Bradstreet said. “The girls were playing together as a team, had great energy and were having fun. We lost our momentum when we played Hutchinson and had too many mistakes. We were not consistent with our serves and that led to our loss against Hutchinson. We are looking forward to some time off from games so we can change some things and make improvements for our next game.”
