McPherson’s JV football team exploded for 26 second-half points here Monday to pull away from Winfield, 40-22.

Winfield led 8-0 early, but MHS scored twice before the end of the first half, then put up two touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarters.

It was a big night for Kyler Hoppes, as he ran for two touchdowns and passed for two more, one to Tayln Huff and the other to Honestee Whittker.

Whittker also had two touchdown runs as the MHS offense began to pick up the pace after intermission.

Hoppes also ran in for a 2-pointer and the other deuce came when Hoppes threw to Chandler Wiard.

MHS is now 2-1 on the year and goes to Augusta on Monday.
