DERBY — Ashley Achilles was the top finisher for McPherson High’s JV tennis team on Tuesday in the Derby Invitational.
Achilles was 2-1 for second place at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles, Jensen Mierkiewicz went 2-2 for fourth.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of Madison Schmidt and Daphane Carrillo took third place with a 3-1 record. At No. 2, Caitlin Faulk and Lexi Verow were 1-2 for fourth.
“We are making vast improvements each meet,” MHS coach Noah Lindfors said. “I felt like we played much smarter and didn't go for shots that are out of our comfort zone. We are becoming more and more conscious of unforced errors and mental mistakes and he effect they have on a match. Overall, I am very pleased with our effort and improvements today.”
MHS was third out of seven teams, trailing Maize South and Valley Center.
