It will be an extravaganza of running on Thursday when the annual McPherson Invitational Cross Country Meet is contested at Rolling Acres.
The middle school portion of the meet starts at 3 p.m., with the high school taking to the course at 4:30.
Rolling Acres provides one of the toughest tests that teams tackle during the regular season.
“Yes, it is definitely tough. And it will be hot, which is never easy with hills,” MHS coach Aspen Frey said. “We have been really working on our hill training these past few weeks and how to maintain speed up and over them. I think they are mentally prepared to represent McPherson well at their home meet. We have had some sickness this past week in which took out a few of our varsity runners. Goals are for our men's and women's team are to place at least Top 2 or 3, or just win the meet. If everyone can stay healthy and not let the heat get to them, I think we will be successful.”
High school teams include Buhler, El Dorado, Hays, Hutchinson, Maize, Maize South, and Salina South
Middle school teams include Circle, Hays, Hutchinson, Maize South, Newton and Buhler.
