BUHLER — McPherson High ninth-grade volleyball coach Danica Fitzmorris liked what she saw Saturday from her team in the Buhler Invitational, as the Bullpups were 4-1 on the day to take third place.
“We played with much more emotion today, I was really proud of the girls’ emotional excitement, which we had worked hard on in practice on this week,” Fitzmorris said. “Our serving is still a wrench for us, we need to continue to develop more discipline in this area. However, we did show a lot more discipline when it came to fighting at the end of a close match. We had several tight games this tournament and for the most part we always came out on top.”
The Bullpups won their pool by going 3-0 with wins over Hutchinson (25-23, 26-24), Andale (26-24, 25-15) and Liberal (15-25, 25-15, 15-11).
The Bullpups lost to Andover Central in the semifinals (20-25, 5-25), but came back to defeat Hutchinson (25-18, 22-25, 16-14).
“Our libero, Arianna Potter, played very well today. She did her job and passed to target as well as served several aces,” Fitzmorris said. “Cassie Cooks dominated at the net and was our player to go to.”
