WINFIELD — Central Christian College’s women’s soccer team continued its resurgence on Saturday by defeating another KCAC member, Southwestern, 2-1.
Central went 3-0 during the week against the KCAC and now has won its last four matches overall to improve to 6-3.
Kaitlyn Bevel beat Southwestern goalie Olyvia Bish moments into the second half to give the Tigers the win.
The teams had played to a 1-all tie in the first half, with Isabel Sierra scoring the CCC goal. Both Tiger goals came in 1-on-1 situations.
The game was tight throughout as both teams fired off 11 shots. Goldie Bougher made five saves for Central.
“We've spent a number of training sessions working on our finishing when in scoring position and it's showing,” CCC coach Scott Fogarty said. “Our composure in those crucial moments has improved, but we still need to work on our focus for a full 90 minutes. In my opinion, that's two games running we should've kept a clean sheet, but we let the other team hang around and eventually back in it."
Central, which played three games this past week, plays three more this week — all on the road. They play Wednesday and Thursday in South Dakota against Presentation College and Mount Mercy, respectively, then complete the long week Saturday at Grace University of Omaha.
